Hello, I am Salvatore Ingoglia, I am a portrait artist. Well I started as a portrait artist and in the last couple of years I started to expand to still life paintings, landscapes, old Renaissance paintings and what ever I have a desire to paint.
For my portrait art, I began drawing with pencil then charcoal and now I use acrylic paint. I love drawing and painting commission portraits of people and animals. I start by spending some time looking and focusing on different pictures of the person or animal I am going to draw or paint. The next step is very important. I set an intention on how I want the art piece to turn out, how I want it to look and exactly what I want to capture in the art work. It is so satisfying to capture someones true essence and have people notice it. One quick example, my father asked me to do a portrait of Abraham Lincoln. He sent me the photograph of Abraham Lincoln that he wanted me to do the portrait of. In that picture I saw Abraham Lincoln tired and worn out. My intention I set was to have the drawing look (without questions) exactly like Abraham Lincoln, I wanted to capture his confidence and his leadership. It took all the way to the end of doing the portrait for me to capture what I wanted. After I gave the portrait drawing to my father, he brought the portrait to Toastmasters where he was going to do a speech about Abraham Lincoln. It was very rewarding to hear the comments about my portrait especially that I kept hearing people noticed the confidence, leadership and energy of the painting.
It is always my pleasure and joy to draw or paint a commission painting of someones love one. Either person or animal. If you have any questions about a portrait you would like painted or drawn please don't hesitate to contact me at Salvatore@jbellarts.com.
